The delights of Peppermint

Image
Peppermint is one of the most popular herbal plants there is! It is also one of those most known and used essential oils and for good reason! Peppermint from my garden Not only is peppermint oil one of the oldest European herbs used for medicinal purposes, but other historical accounts date its use to ancient Japanese and Chinese folk medicine. It’s also mentioned in Greek mythology when the nymph Mentha (or Minthe) was transformed into a sweet-smelling herb by Pluto, who had fallen in love with her and wanted people to appreciate her for years to come. The many peppermint  oil uses  have  been documented back to 1000 B.C. and have been found in several Egyptian pyramids. Source It has a long list of benefits and uses including its  ability to improve digestion, alleviate  respiratory problems , headaches, nausea, fever ,  stomach and bowel spasms, hair & skin care, as well as aches & pains. It is even fantastic at keeping away pests such as spiders and wasps! Peppermint is a c

A Gift of Thyme

Image
Thyme oil I have had for many years but it was when the dreaded covid first hit and the lockdowns came upon us that I really dug into what Thyme had to offer.  I was specifically learning about which essential oils offer us the best properties to boost our lungs, since that is what our biggest concern is facing this virus.  It's safe to say I fell in love with "the oil of purification".  " From the Middle Ages and beyond to modern times, Thyme has been embraced as a powerful spiritual, medicinal, and culinary herb. The burning of this highly fragrant plant has long symbolized the cleansing and purification of everything negative and unwanted, whether they be pests, pathogens, uncertainties, fears, or nightmares. It was Pliny the Elder, the noted Roman philosopher and author, who aptly summarized this sentiment: "[Thyme] puts to flight all venomous creatures". Accordingly, the word 'Thyme' is believed to originate from the Greek word  'thymon'

The Magic of Calendula

Image
I love Calendula, the flowers are so cute and they have a soft flowery smell. If you are into growing and planting they are a fun one to grow!  A lot of my Calendula plants survive through the winter and I always find dozens of brand new plants that pop up in the Spring that I dig up and replant in other places.  This post is to talk about Calendula Herbal oil specifically.  It is extracted from marigold flowers ( Calendula officinalis ). It's made by infusing the flowers in a carrier oil such as Olive oil.  It’s often used as a natural alternative treatment in products like ointments, creams, salves, teas, capsules or tinctures.  It can be beneficial for any kind of wound healing including insect bites, bruises, blisters, cuts, burns and cold sores.  Topical application of Calendula is used to keep wounds clean and help new tissue to grow. It has been used often to help poorly healing wounds; ones that are exhibiting signs of tenderness, redness, or inflammation.  This magical

Meet the Author : Tess

Hey! I thought I would introduce myself! My name is Tessa and I am a mama to three kids under 6 years of age. I have been married for over 10 years to the most amazing human being I have ever met.  In the Spring and Summer you can usually find me outside covered in dirt with a shovel nearby. I love to garden and try out new plants to see how they grow.  I have a row of blueberries and raspberries that my kids will sit next to and eat during the hot summer days.  It works out well since I spend a lot of time watering in the evening while they eat a nice healthy snack haha  I'd really love to start making tinctures, herbal oils, and evening drying out my own herbs for seasonings in the future.  My love of plants really started blossoming in 2012 when I got introduced to essential oils. I thought they were amazing!!  In 2014 I created a Co-Op for essential oils and it has since then evolved into also having access to all sorts of different carrier oils, butters, and other raw material

No More Fear of Allergies

Image
It's March and Spring is steadily coming! Although I am excited to get back outside to rummage around in my garden, I know so many people who loathe this time of year and don't get to enjoy it because of the torment of seasonal allergies. If you want to ditch the allergies, lets talk essential oils! Many essential oils are very effective at relieving the symptoms of allergies. The oils contain compounds that act like natural antihistamines to relieve inflammation. This helps to soothe muscles and nerves in your respiratory system making it easier to breathe. The antimicrobial properties of many essential oils also help to remove the source of the allergen by killing off allergy-causing pathogens. There are A LOT of different oils and so many of them can actually help the onset of allergies. Today though I am going to stick with 4 particular oils that I have found to be fantastic for busting allergies. Lemon  This is a well renowned oil because of all the amazing things it can d

Presenting: Pain Balm

Image
Introducing my best seller, Pain Balm! I would love to tell you all about it and why it is so popular! First, lets start with why I made it. I was pregnant with baby #3 and had gotten my first bucket of Arnica Butter. (For those who don't know about Arnica I will explain in a bit) and I had 2 people in so much pain from various things and I simply just wanted to help them relieve it. (As you come to know me you will find that everything I have ever made was either to help a problem I had or that someone else had/has.) So I created 2 different recipes and sent them around and this little guy was MAGIC. We were trying it out on everything! Jaw pain, back aches, muscle spasms, you name it and we probably tried it! And it WORKED! This balm was actually my very first one I ever made and it worked so well I couldn't help myself. That's why I now have so many products for so many different ailments. I have always been fascinated with the healers from times in history like the medi

What is an Essential Oil?

Image
Love Essential Oil Blend In my line of work I meet a lot of people that are 'in the know' of essential oils but I also meet a lot of people that have no idea what I am talking about. I am here to clear the air (quite literally speaking) so you know exactly what I use in my products and why. I have always felt strongly that people should know exactly what ingredients are in the products they purchase and use (especially on their bodies) so I have always held myself to that standard; transparency is key. So first and for most, at the epicenter off all my creations are essential oils. What are essential oils? Essential oils are highly volatile, complex chemical structures made up of plant molecules. They are known to be the life force of the plant: concentrated energy that allows plants to function as they should. But, fun fact: essential oils aren’t actually oils. The term “essential oil” is a misnomer that's been in the industry since the beginning. They’re actually pure pla
