No More Fear of Allergies

It's March and Spring is steadily coming! Although I am excited to get back outside to rummage around in my garden, I know so many people who loathe this time of year and don't get to enjoy it because of the torment of seasonal allergies.

If you want to ditch the allergies, lets talk essential oils!

Many essential oils are very effective at relieving the symptoms of allergies. The oils contain compounds that act like natural antihistamines to relieve inflammation. This helps to soothe muscles and nerves in your respiratory system making it easier to breathe. The antimicrobial properties of many essential oils also help to remove the source of the allergen by killing off allergy-causing pathogens.

There are A LOT of different oils and so many of them can actually help the onset of allergies. Today though I am going to stick with 4 particular oils that I have found to be fantastic for busting allergies.

Lemon

This is a well renowned oil because of all the amazing things it can do as well as being one of the more affordable oils.

One of the many uses of lemon essential oil is to treat respiratory problems associated with allergic reactions. Lemon is a natural antioxidant agent that can help cleanse toxins and reduce the body’s response to allergens. You can also use lemon essential oil in a solution of water as a natural antiseptic spray to disinfect surfaces and remove allergy-causing pathogens.

The Journal International Scholarly Research Notices reported that a nasal preparation based on lemon essential oil helped to alleviate the symptoms of allergic rhinitis. The lemon oil remedy helped to reduce nasal mucus and helped treat throat and mouth inflammation. The researchers found that a lemon-based nasal spray is a good alternative to treat perennial and seasonal allergic reactions.

Lemon is also well known to be a mood enhancer, so if even the thought of allergies is getting you down, you can be rest assured that you can not only combat the allergies that plague you but also be in a happier mood.

Lavender

Also one of the more popular and well known oils. Also being incredibly versatile like Lemon, not only will this oil help you fight off the allergies, it can also help your mood and is a sedative that can help calm your nerves down while also calming your allergy symptoms.

The essential oil from lavender works as a natural antihistamine and will help to reduce inflammatory allergic reactions in your body. Lavender also has anti-inflammatory properties that make it an ideal essential oil to treat asthma.

The journal Life Sciences reported how the anti-inflammatory effect of lavender essential oil can treat the complications of bronchial asthma. The medicinal compounds in lavender oil help to inhibit the production of histamine and suppress inflammatory responses in the airways. The scientists described lavender oil as “an alternative medicine for bronchial asthma.

Not only does it smell great but it can seriously do some work on you so you can go and actually enjoy the outdoors.

Eucalyptus

Known for helping respiratory conditions, but did you know it is one of the best essential oils for fighting allergies?

It is a natural expectorant and can help treat many respiratory conditions. The oil from eucalyptus assists in relieving nasal congestion, clearing your airways, and helping you breathe easier.

It has this effect because compounds in eucalyptus oil have a cooling effect on nerves in your body. If you suffer from seasonal allergies, asthma attacks, or get a blocked nose from pet dander, use steam inhalation with eucalyptus essential oil to get relief.

It is used to reduce swelling of the respiratory tract mucous membranes, treat coughs, reduce symptoms of asthma, ease sinus pain, and clear respiratory infections.

Roman Chamomile

Also very well known, however, this oil is very expensive. The people that do have it generally use it sparingly. This particular oil is actually, in my opinion, the best for treating allergies.

Roman chamomile possesses antimicrobial and antioxidant properties, and it’s commonly used for hay fever. It has the power to relieve mucus congestion, irritations, swelling and skin conditions that are associated with seasonal allergy symptoms. When applied topically, Roman chamomile oil helps relieve skin irritations that may be due to food allergies or sensitivities.

My husband has debilitating allergies and he tried the Lemon, Lavender, and Peppermint deal that is used by a lot of people and it helped but his allergies are so bad that they really didn't make enough of a difference.

Roman Chamomile was a game changer for him.

I remember one sunny day he mowed really long grass (up to his chest) for hours one day to help someone out and he was covered in hives, couldn't stop sneezing, and had red watery eyes. It was bad.

I made him this oil blend (that is mostly Roman Chamomile) and his sinuses started to clear up within a few minutes, the sneezing subsided, his eyes stopped watering. All in all he just felt a heck of a lot better.

At that time I wasn't making any products or else I would have been able to help the hives more but all of the other symptoms thankfully subsided and he was able to get some relief.

Thankfully now I do make products that can help with hives! If you have any kind of skin inflammation issue, including hives and rashes caused by allergies I would highly recommend Purify Butter!

So all in all these four oils blended together make a killer concoction, one that can kill allergy symptoms and do it pretty quickly!

Wear this oil on aromatherapy jewelry and be able to smell it throughout the day or diffuse it in your home during the day or even at night to help you sleep. Roman Chamomile and Lavender are both great sleeping aids.

You can add a couple drops to some oil and massage your chest, back or bottom of feet and even dilute the oil to add to a nice bath.

There's so many different ways you could use this Allergy Support Oil Blend to help provide relief this allergy season! You can even grab Breathe Oil Blend or Clear Balm or the Allergy Relief Set to help aid you in your allergy relief.

  1. Skeptic here, I have several concerns. My mother is suffering from restless leg syndrome and pain in her knees due to a fractured femur with a plate and a rod, and arthritis in both knees. Then she also has severe allergies, and she has two cats. I see you have a product for allergies, but I’ve heard that essential oil’s are deadly to cats. Is there any truth to that?… Catherine

    1. Oh no! That sounds awful!

Yes most essential oils are toxic to cats, however, its mostly topically. If she had a drop on an aromatherapy necklace or on her shirt collar it wouldn't harm them at all. I probably wouldn't put it in a diffuser (at least in the same room) in case it affects the cats but other than that I don't see a problem with using essential oil blends =) There are some essential oils ok for cats, but definitely most of them are not.

I actually make a balm that helps with restless leg syndrome and arthritis. I would be happy to send a sample! It is called Relieve and I specifically made it for restless leg syndrome but found it works for other pains such as arthritis as well.

Please let me know if I can help her out in anyway! Shoot me an email if you want to connect further <3
